Major events in JAMS’s history from founding to present day

1984

On December 4th, Heisuke Hironaka establishes the Japan Association for Mathematical Sciences (JAMS).

2000

JAMS begins supporting international mathematical exchanges not fully covered by public funds.

2013

On November 1, in accordance with changes in governance of national foundations, JAMS transitions to the status of general incorporated foundation.

JAMS organizes talent development seminars aimed at young people.

JAMS also begins supporting Peter Frankl’s educational activities at elementary, junior high, and high schools starting with Iwakuni City and expanding to other cities throughout Japan in subsequent year.

2022

In August, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the executive structure was officially streamlined, and the company transitioned to a system utilizing email and Zoom. At the same time, Eriko Hironaka assumes the position of representative director, and Heisuke Hironaka becomes honorary director.
